Five On Friday - A Few From My Phone

Joining in again today with Amy at her blog, Love Made My Home and her Five on Friday photo linky party.

Just like last week, I have chosen five pics from my phone to share with you today.  I tend to use my phone's camera much more often during the week, capturing the little "daily" details that happen during every day life.  I tend to save my "big" camera for weekend outings and events where I take multiple shots of  the "action." I try to dump my camera photos onto my computer's hard drive each weekend so that my phone stays clutter-free and I never lose any precious photos by accident!

Here are my favourite five from tonight's photo"dump":

Number One: This week's manicure.  I went subtle this week opting for some "bridal" colours that my manicurist was dying to try out.  It's mostly just some glitter on four fingers and some daisy-shaped sparkles on my index finger only.  Pretty, huh?
(The girls in my kindergarten class ADORED it!)

Number Two:  Doing some summery sewing.  I've been seeing so many bloggers making beautiful, flowery quilt tops that I decided I HAD to join in.  The toughest part is always picking the fabrics - making them match, or balancing the colours.  But not this time. I simply cut squares out the fabrics I liked best, whether they went together or not! The way I figured, flowers always look good mixed together in my garden, why can't it be the same way on a quilt!?

Number Three:  Spring has finally arrived in my part of Canada.  That temperature says it all!

Number Four: One of the main reasons we decided to get a dog was to encourage our family to get out more, enjoy the natural spaces around us and to get some much needed exercise.  So this past weekend, hubby invested in a season's pass to all the conservation areas surrounding our home.  After looking into it, we realized we could walk once a week for the next 20 weeks and never see the same tree, rock or root.
We headed out on a perfectly sunny Sunday with the pooch and a picnic and did our first 3km hike.  The kids and the dog loved it!  This weekend promises perfect hiking weather again, so we will be off and trekking once again!

Number Five:  Victoria Sponge.
I am baker. A quite experienced and comprehensive baker. However, I have to admit, I had never made a traditional Victoria Sponge cake.  Until now.  I made it a priority this past week and used this Mary Berry recipe.
And it was devine!!
I guess I'll be  permanently adding this one to my repertoire!

Thanks for all of your lovely comments on my previous posts.  I try to reply to them all as soon as I can.

I'll be back early next week with another post.  Salisbury Cathedral or more pics of the hiking trip?
Or who knows what we might get up to this weekend??
Maybe I'll share that here, too!

Hugs to all,

XOXO
Bronwyn

  1. Great Five on Friday :) Of course I love the quilt, I love scrappy quilts where bits of all different fabrics are thrown together. They often turn out the best. Thank you for taking us along on your walk, I am still hobbling around on my sprained knee so miss going for walks!

    1. Oh! I hope your knee gets better soon. These spring days are perfect for long walks! I haven't done anymore sewing since last weekend but hopefully I can get back to it today sometime.

  2. Hi Bronwyn, I wish I could take pics like yours with my 'phone, I'm really not getting to grips with it at all. Your Victoria sandwich looks great - seems funny that you've never made one before, it's one of the first things we learn to bake here. Have a good weekend and I look forward to your next post. x

    1. Camera phones are hard. In fact, I find I struggle a lot, too. I find my camera phone can't take action shots at all so if I want good, unblurry pic, I have to make sure everyone is standing perfectly still. I much prefer my "big" camera, even though it's heavier. Planning another cake today. Perhaps cherry and almond!

  3. Your cake looks soooo delicious!!! Your idea to get a pass so that you can go walking to all of those different places is brilliant, I love that idea. You will have a lot of fun I imagine. How great too that your weather is warming up, you must be sooooo pleased. Love the nails too! Thank you so much for joining in, it is always lovely to have you take part! I hope that you have a great weekend! xx

  4. Great idea to use photos from dumping from phone to computer. Love the cloud manicure, but I have to say that Victoria sponge is to die for, just delicious looking. As to quilting, it is one craft I have not plucked up the courage to try yet...

    1. Baking another cake today - I think it will be a "Cherry Almond" one. Give quilting try. Start with simple shapes like squares and triangles. As you get more confident you can try something harder.

  5. Nice group of five things. I'm Canadian too and it has been a lovely week in the garden, so my Five for Friday is all garden related.

  6. A great selection of news Bronwyn! We use the same Mary Berry recipe for our Victoria Sandwich. Lovely. It never looks quite as professional as yours. We love walking our dog, it is good for all of us, not just for the exercise but also for the family time. A weekly manicure sounds like a great treat. I chew my nails so not for me. Have a good weekend. xx

    1. Hi Christina! It's always busy around- and I'm always taking photos of it all! I don't actually own any Mary Berry cookbooks, but I enjoy every recipe of hers from online sources. It's funny- she is not really well-known here in Canada. I only know of her because I am addicted to BBC shows and all things British! By the way - try a shellac manicure- you CAN"T bite your nails if you have one! It worked like a charm for my younger sister. Now she's not a nail-biter anymore!

    1. Get your nails done! You deserve it! It is one of the few things I do for myself on a regular basis. And if you get a shellac manicure it will last for weeks no matter how hard your hands work!
