LRW and "Life's A Garden""

This week, the challenge at Little Red Wagon was to use heat embossing on one's creation.

I am no heat embossing expert. In fact, I can count on one hand how many times I have used my Martha Stewart heat gun since I bought it a year ago! However, Now that I am getting the hang of it, I might use it more. Maybe as I get started on my Christmas cards.....

On my double layout, "Life's a Garden," I used my heat gun to emboss the letters in the word "BUZZZ." I thought this stamp from We R Memory Keepers went perfectly with my layout about my family's recent trip to an apiary fun farm.

I like how it adds a little shine to the words, adding another texture to the layout.

Most of the other product is from Imaginisce's "Berrylicious" line and is part of my August design team kit from The Scrapping Bug. You'll see a bit more of this as the month progresses.....

Scrapping Bug Reveal - Part 2

The Brain Tumour Foundation recently held an event for young families affected by brain tumours. This summer it was held at Marineland.
The kids LOVE this place. We have bought season's passes for the last few years and try to go back once a month.
We view the animals, watch the shows and, of course, ride the rides!
We met some wonderful families and we look forward to the fall event in a pumpkin patch near London!

Each month, as part of my design work for the Scrapping Bug, I have to create 3 layouts and/cards and some kind of "altered item."

This month I decided to make a mini-book about our daughter, Afton, and all of her journeys to beach since 2006 (when she was born!)

I had a wonderful time putting this together. I had such cute pics of Afton- as a baby, as a toddler and now as a "big girl."

I stamped, I glittered, I glued on Bling - I made it as "girly" as I could!

Afton loves it. She says she'll keep it forever. I said she could- after it has spent several months on display at the scrapbook store!

Thanks for looking!!

The Scrapping Bug Design Team Reveal - July 2011

Photobucket
This month I worked with "Beach Babe" from Fancy Pants Designs. I love the colours and patterns in this line - it was so easy to use! I was also given a 3-pack of seed beads, glitter and micro-beads. Those were a bit more of a challenge!

However, I was able to use all three types of sparkle. On this layout about my youngest, Cam, I used the turquoise glitter to edge the water. I also managed to use the mixed-colour microbeads on the title chipboard letters.

Photobucket

I really like this layout about Afton blowing bubbles. These girly papers wer made for her!

Photobucket

I hand-sewed a million seed beads on as a border around the large circle. Time-consuming, but well worth it!

An Album for My Dad

Last spring I made a mini-album for my father featuring pictures of him and my 3 children. My mom said he looked at it constantly, smiling and carefully fingering the pictures. After seeing how ratty it was getting, I decided I'd better make another one for him to enjoy.

Unfortunately, my father was able to enjoy it for only a few short weeks before passing away.

I am glad he could flip through it several times, enjoying the collection of pictures, spanning from infant photos of Bryn and Poppa, to the most recent photo of him and all 3 of the kids. Even for just a little while.....
The week following his passing, we took the book to the funeral home so that the 100's of people who visited, to show their love for my father, could flip through it and enjoy it too.

My mother now keeps this book close-by-- cherished memories of my father.

And the little book that I made LAST spring? The one that was wrinkly, torn and covered in Poppa's fingerprints? Where is it now?

Poppa took it to heaven with him, "cause he liked it a lot!" (Afton, age 5)

"Dance"

This layout is one with pics of our daughter doing her first dance recital. She was part of the "Little Tutus" dance class and was so proud to show us her routine at her recent May concert:

Her teacher, Miss Shannon, gave each little girl a frilly bow to wear in her hair for the routine. Afton was as proud as a peacock!

Both of the boys cheered very loudly when Afton completed all of her toe-pointing and twirling. They were very impressed. Daddy even had tears in his eyes. What a softie!

Afton is done with "tutus" for awhile. This summer we signed up for "Jazz and Acro." This should be good!
