Remember These Words on the Wall

Afton's bedroom is almost complete.  We have painted and wall-papered, sewn, mod-podged and hung.
I have a few small accessories I want to finish and then we'll be done!

A few days ago I realized that I needed a little something to add to the space beside her window.  Afton was game for a little crafting, so we got to it!

We bought a 6 foot length of 3-inch wide  primed wood.  Then dearest hubby cut it into 5 pieces varying in length from 9 - 14".

Afton helped me paint each piece with a shade of pink or blue craft paint.

I found the colours a little bit too strong for the look I was after, so  I dry-brushed some antique white over each board.

Next I put Afton to work coming up with her own "words to live by."  I wanted words that would  be good reminders for each day --words that have meaning and importance in her day-to-day life.

This is what she came up with:

So cute.  I love how she wrote "KICK." As in "kick a soccer ball" or " kick your brother?"
Too funny.

I cross-referenced her list with the words I had come up with.  We had several the same.

 Like mother, like daughter.

To add the text to each sign, I cut our chosen words out of a variety of fonts using my Cricut machine.

Then each letter was held onto the painted wood using  several layers of home-made Mod Podge (watered down white glue!).

And here is how they turned out, hanging on her wall:

I edged each piece with a fine black marker line to emphasize the edges.

It was quite a challenge coming up with a way to hang these signs.  They were quite heavy.  In the end I used 3M Removable Command Strips - easy to apply and remove.

I hope everyone has a sunny, dry weekend.

Weatherman is calling for rain here, but hopefully, he's wrong!!

Much love to all,

Bronwyn

  1. Wow Bronwyn these look wonderful - perfect that they are words that you generated together but also think how much you would pay for them in a 'trendy' shop! Afton's bedroom is looking beautiful - very sophisticated - well done! Jane x

  3. Afton's room is just too gorgeous. I can remember my daughter's being so sweet...and tidy! Now there are posters ALL over the walls of bands (and not the usual ones...these look scary!), dark make up and clothes. Maybe she will change back soon. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Chel X

  11. I want to do something like this in the kitchen. I wonder if the heaviness factor could be solved by using thick foam board. This is very awesome. I never had the energy to decorate the boys room because with some decals.
