Joining in again with Amy's Five on Friday link-up series.
As usual, my five items are favourite photos taken from my phone that illustrate the week that has been.
Number One: A lunch date with my hubby.
My in-laws took the kids to a concert one day this past week and it just so happened that it was perfect timing for Kevin and I to head out and enjoy a leisurely lunch together. I had no stipulation on where we went as long as I could get a delicious latte. I was not disappointed. My meal was delightful, and so was dessert, but truthfully, I enjoyed my stripey latte the best and would have easily ordered another had time permitted!
Number Two: Reading for pleasure
I had seen this book in many a bookstore and was intrigued by its cover. I love the classic stories of the ancient Greeks, especially the ones concerning the gods and goddesses like Hermes, Persephone and Apollo. So to find a story set in modern day London (my favourite city!) starring these very same deities, I was immediately excited. The story twists together a modern couple and the ancient gods (who don't quite live up to "holy" standards) and chaos and excitement ensues. I don't want to give away too much, but trust me - you'll like it. A lot.
Number Three: A new crochet project
I picked up a new afghan pattern that weaves circles into the middle of squares. I like the geometric feel of it and I knew I had a few balls of variegated yarn that would work perfectly. I've mixed green, blue and white for a "summertime freshness" and the blanket will be done when the yarn runs out!
Baby sized- maybe? Lap sized - possibly. Time will tell.
Number Four: Fresh berries
Picked these up at the local market. Oh they looked scrumptious! Brought them home, washed them up and had to decide how to serve them for dessert. With shortcakes or whipped cream? Or both? In the end they went perfectly alongside a Almond Mug Cake and some vanilla ice cream. Hubby was especially excited because I made him a gluten-free mug cake too!
Number Five: An arm full of silver that reminds me of Daddy.
My father passed away 4 years ago today from complications of ALS. I think of him often and it is always little things that remind me of him.
See the bracelet on the left? My daddy bought it for me.
He didn't actually go into the store and pick it out for me, that wasn't his style. Instead, he heard me speaking of it to one of my sisters, complaining how much I loved it but felt my car payment was more important.
Later that day, my Daddy quietly pulled me aside and said, "I put some money in your bank account. I hope it will cover the cost of the bracelet."
It did. And more.
Who would have guessed, back then, that I would lose my father within a few very short years. These little tokens of his love have become all the more important and I will cherish them forever.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Kevin and I are going on a day-long winery tour with several of our friends. I'll have lots of pics to share after the fact, I'm sure!
XOXOXO
