I recently found this basket at the thrift store. It reminded me of an old locker basket and had plenty of space to hold tons of stuff.
But even with no real use in mind, I brought it home and hoped inspiration would hit.
And it did - that night at homework time!! While the kids and I scrambled to find pencils and erasers to do that night's assignments, I realized we needed a permanent place to keep everything we needed for homework completion.
So the next evening, I collected everything together.....
And here it is - The Homework Basket!!
I added a mason jar full of sharp pencils. We are never going to run out mid- homework!!
Four pair of scissors - one for me and one pair each for my three kidlets.
A jar of erasers. We make a lot of mistakes!! :)
Gotta have these - a whole slew of sharp pencil crayons. Even my hubby wanted to try them out!
Post-its --these are perfect for practising spelling words and doing the "rough work" involved in mathematics.
As a teacher myself, I love it when parents send in notes on pretty papers and cards.
So, I threw in a few packages of blank note cards in so that I can easily whip off letters to my kids' teachers.
Last but not least, we needed glue sticks and a calculator. ( My youngest, who is 4, loves to press the buttons on the calculator and read them back to me. Wonderful number-knowledge play!)
This is one of the best organizational things I have done in our home. We use it faithfully EVERY night and my children have become experts at making sure everything goes back in it safely for use next time.
I have a small shelving unit on the edge of my kitchen countertop. Our basket sits comfortably there, within arm's reach of the kitchen table, ready for action!!
This may seem like a small little project - but in the grand scheme of raising 3 small children on top of my own full-time job, it's the little things that make life easier!
Hugs and smiles to all,
B.
What a fun idea. My kids are grown but my grand kids would love a basket like this, just for them!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! Most of the time taken is finding a pencil, calculator etc so having these in one place is brilliant. Hope your break went well. Take care. Chel x

Love this idea. We were madly scrambling through the art supplies for some of these very items while completing science fair projects this weekend. I think the time has come. Thanks.

Hi Bronwyn. I absolutely love this idea. I've been trying to come up with a nice carry all idea for homework supplies. Thank you so much for linking this up at Thriving on Thursdays. I'm featuring this at tomorrow's party. (PS Loved seeing all your photos from Disneyworld. I'd love to go one day.)

Love this..it's like a homework command center!
ReplyDeleteI totally need a homework basket!! And why are there never enough sharp pencils??? Our electric sharpener was one of the best investments I've ever made, but EVEN STILL, we're always searching for pencils at homework time!!
