My Girl & Me

I recently applied to be part of The Scrapping Bug's Design Team again. As part of the application I had to create a challenge and make a layout to go with it.

Photobucket

My Challenge was to create a project that had "recessed" elements. I do a lot of "pop-dotting" to RAISE parts of my pages, but I had never really tried the opposite.

Here is my example:

Do you see the recessed areas? The cut-out circles create another dimension - that way, the shadows created become another design element.

Do you like?

By the way, I am on the Design Team again. Busy with this month's kit. I can't wait to post my new creations!

Layouts for my Little Lady

I am a girly-girl.

Pink is my favourite colour.

I love flowers and ruffles.

But, I have 2 sons and 1 daughter.

Though I love my boys dearly, 2 out of 3 layouts I create need to be masculine and usually contain trucks, plaid, stars and dinosaurs. : )

So when I get the chance, I love to do pages about my little lady - with pink, flowers, glitter, rhinestones, ruffles. My love for the feminine goes full power and I come up with this:

Snow Day!

It is rare that we have "Snow Days" in Halton. In fact, in my 11 year teaching career I think we have 4 in total. This is tough on a girl who grew up in the snow-belt of Southwestern Ontario where we had snow days pretty much once a week during the winter! The family took full advantage of the mid week "holiday" this past January. Photobucket We baked, we coloured, we decorated and read. And of course, we hit the drifts in the front yard - rolling in the snow until our fingers and toes were numb from the cold! (All products by Echo Park, except chipboard title - Maya Road)

Sketchy Thursdays and "So Tweet"

Photobucket

Just a quick post before my family and I head out to pick new hardwood for our home.

I managed to get this one-page layout done during the 45 minutes my youngest slept this afternoon.

I used very old Imaginisce papers and embellishments that I have had in my stash for ages!.

Sketchy Thursdays & "Cupcakes"

Photobucket

This is Sketchy Thursdays sketch of the week. Love it! A double page sketch!

For my layout, I used some darling pictures of my younger 2 children decorating cupcakes at Valentines. Unfortunately, my oldest son was in the hospital recovering from surgery so he couldn't take part, but his sister and brother made sure they created a few mini-masterpieces for him too!

Photobucket

I used some really old product on this one. I dug through my folder of Valentine's theme product and managed to use up a lot of random paper mixing various reds and pinks.

Sketchy Thursdays & a Brain Tumor Story

Here is Sketchy Thursdays sketch of the week:

And my Layout:

Here is the journalling:
Photobucket

Yes. We recently went through what no parent EVER wants to go through. To make a long story short (and to keep my from getting weepy AGAIN!)the story goes like this:
During a regular yearly check of Bryn's eyes, the Optometrist saw that his optic nerves were swollen, so he sent us to an Opthalmologist to check these nerves in better detail. He told us that swelling of this kind in the optic nerves is usually caused by swelling of the brain. He sent us for an emergency MRI. Bryn had an MRI at 5pm and by 6:30 we were told he had a fist-sized tumour growing within his skull, crushing his brain and cerebellum. He would need surgery immediately and by 9pm he was in the OR for a 6 hour surgery. Amazingly, everything went perfectly and Bryn has recovered VERY well! His tumor is a benign cystic tumor called a Pilocytic Astrocytoma and it happens in 1 in 100 000 people. Bryn will be under watch for years to come, but we are so glad to have him with us, happy and healthy, even after that ordeal!!

Want to see what this kind of tumor looks like? Here is an example from another child (Bryn's was larger!):
